Air Fryer Cleaning Tips

Air fryers have become a kitchen favorite for cooking healthier meals with less oil, but like any appliance, they need regular cleaning to stay in top condition. Proper care not only keeps your air fryer working efficiently but also ensures your food always tastes fresh. Here are some simple steps to clean your air fryer safely and effectively.

Unplug & cool down

Safety should always come first when it comes to cleaning your air fryer. Before you start, make sure the appliance is switched off, unplugged, and left to cool completely. Even if you’re eager to clean it right after cooking, touching the basket, tray, or heating element while it’s still hot can lead to burns or damage to the non-stick surface. Allowing the air fryer to fully cool also makes it easier to handle and ensures you can clean it thoroughly without risk.

Remove & wash the basket/tray

Once your air fryer has cooled, carefully remove the basket and tray. These parts usually collect the most grease, crumbs, and leftover food bits, so giving them a good clean is essential. Wash them with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge to protect the non-stick coating. If you notice stubborn stains or grease that won’t come off easily, let the parts soak in warm water for about 10–15 minutes before scrubbing again. This helps loosen residue without damaging the surface.

Use a non-abrasive brush

Sometimes food bits get stuck to the basket or tray, especially after cooking sticky or heavily seasoned foods. Instead of scrubbing aggressively with harsh tools, which can scratch or damage the non-stick coating, use a soft, non-abrasive brush. A silicone or nylon brush works well for loosening stubborn residue without causing wear and tear.

Wipe the interior

Once the basket and tray are cleaned, clean the inside of the air fryer. Use a damp cloth or soft sponge to wipe away grease spots, crumbs, and food residue that may have collected during cooking. Pay extra attention to the heating element at the top, clean it gently with a cloth or soft brush to prevent damage. Keeping the interior clean not only helps reduce odors but also ensures your air fryer continues to perform efficiently with every use.

Do not submerge the base

Never submerge the air fryer base in water, as it contains electrical components that can be damaged. Instead, wipe it carefully with a damp cloth to keep it clean. This simple step helps ensure your air fryer stays safe, lasts longer, and works efficiently every time.
